"After 13 years of a season full of pride and gratitude, it's time to take off my baseball boots. I leave with experiences and memories that I could not even imagine. They were beyond my childhood dream of playing career," he said, looking back on his past time.
Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fifth round in the 2012 draft, he made his big league debut in 2016 and went 40-54 with a 4.17 ERA in 248 games over the next nine seasons. He contributed to the team in various roles, moving between starters and bullpens.
In 2017, he contributed to the Dodgers' advance to the World Series and was named an All-Star representing the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018.
He is also deeply connected to Ryu. He was with the Dodgers from his debut season in 2016 to 2019, and continued his relationship again in the 2020 season when he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays, Ryu's team, during the season.
He continued his career with the San Francisco Giants (2023) and Oakland Athletics (2024), after passing through the Dodgers and Toronto.
He joined the camp as an invited player after signing a minor contract with the Kansas City Royals in the 2025 season, but failed to make it onto the big league roster and was released in late March. Since then, he has not been looking for a new team.
"It would not have been possible without my family and friends. I am also grateful to all the coaches and colleagues I have worked with over the years. I received so much love and support, and I am grateful to all the people who showed me love and support in any way possible. All of you helped me become the best player possible," he said.
He added, "It's been an incredible honor, and I'm so lucky to be able to leave like this. I'm happy to go home now, and I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my life with my wonderful family."
